Community Speed Dating – Building Connection, Confidence & Healthy Relationships
At Bloom Skills Centre, one of the most common topics requested by our students has always been relationships. As young adults transition into adulthood, many are looking for opportunities to build meaningful friendships, explore romantic relationships, and gain confidence in social situations — just like anyone else.
For many caregivers and families of adults living with exceptionalities, this stage of life can bring both excitement and uncertainty. The transition into adulthood often includes navigating milestones that may feel unfamiliar or difficult to support, including dating, boundaries, communication, consent, and healthy relationships. We recognize that these conversations can feel important, emotional, and sometimes overwhelming.
That is why we created CommUnity Speed Dating — a safe, supportive, and welcoming opportunity for adults ages 18–30 living with exceptionalities to practice social connection in a structured environment designed with dignity, comfort, and respect at its core.
This event is designed to:
-
Encourage social confidence and communication skills
-
Promote healthy relationship development
-
Provide a low-pressure environment for meeting peers
-
Support autonomy and self-expression
-
Foster inclusion and community connection
The evening will be hosted by Bloom Skills Centre Occupational Therapy graduates with professional oversight provided by Andrea Roblin-Hanson. Andrea is a highly respected registered psychotherapist in Kingston who specializes in supporting neurodivergent individuals and their families, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, anxiety, and sensory processing differences. Her compassionate, family-centered approach and extensive community experience help ensure that this event remains supportive, informative, and emotionally safe for participants and caregivers alike.

Caregiver Information Night For Community Speed Dating
Prior to the Community Speed Dating Event, we will also be offering a Caregiver Information Night via Zoom on Thursday, May 28th at 6:00 PM. This session will provide caregivers and families with an opportunity to:
-
Ask questions about the event format and supports
-
Discuss safety, boundaries, and expectations
-
Learn how participants will be guided through the evening
-
Explore ways to support healthy adult relationship development at home
We know this is an important and sometimes vulnerable topic for families. Our hope is to create an environment where participants feel empowered to explore connection safely, authentically, and with appropriate support.
