My experience at Bloom Skills Centre has been amazing I learned so much about different skills like

  • Learning how to keep spaces clean and organized

  • Learning how to take public transportation(buses, taxis,Ubers and ferries) Also learning about how to get to and from places using the Kingston Transit app

-Learning how to do money management( making change and budgeting)

  • Learning about our community garden at Lakeside and learning about different plants that are grown in our garden

  • Learning about being social and taking the necessary steps to being social in the community.

I’ve really enjoyed learning about different things which as lead me to be more independent and hopefully everyone else who enrolls at Bloom will enjoy it as well.

This past summer I had an amazing experience taking bloom skills courses. In Social Savy class I learned new skills in how to better communicate with others and make new friends. In Nest To Know How, I learned how to maintain and clean my apartment. The Bloomskills courses taught me how to better work in teams and make me more independent. I would love to return to Bloomskills and study other courses.

Cole and Family

We are a Canadian family who re-located to Ontario this year.  It has taken some time to find services such as

appropriate courses for our son to attend.  As a result, our son missed the last school year.  We saw such a difference without

school and friends to engage with.

We recently found Bloom Skills Center and our son was able to join two classes a week.

We saw such an overwhelming change in his mood and daily engagement.

His face lights up the day prior to attending class while he plans what to wear and which classmates he will see.

He is so happy to be going to class and even excited to have homework.

New friendships are being developed and he is very eager to get back into the classes that will start in February 2026.

We feel truly blessed to have found Amber and the Bloom Skills Center where our son can once again continue to flourish.

What Bloom means to me is getting to meet new people, make new friends, and learning new skills, because it gives me the chance to learn new things and see new faces.

I have learned how to harvest vegetables, and how to garden. I have also learned how to safely get around the city of Kingston. I have seen others be supportive and encouraging. It has been fun getting being able to do the different bloom courses. I have also learned the difference between canning and pickling. It is a total game changer for me in my life.
