🌱 Root and Fruit Skills Program
Bloom Skills Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to education and skill development for young adults aged 18–30 with intellectual and developmental exceptionalities. Our programs are designed to help participants build confidence, independence, and real-world skills at their own pace.
At Bloom, we believe that where Will exists, Skill can grow. Every participant brings unique strengths and goals, and progress is measured individually. We welcome anyone who shows a willingness to learn—because we know that skills can be taught, but willingness must come from within.
Our team uses inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive supports to meet each participant’s needs and help them reach their personal best.
Programs are currently delivered in 8-week blocks, with each class running one day per week from 9am-12:30pm
Skills development is divided into two pathways:
-
🌿 Root Courses – Foundational classes that build essential life and workplace skills.
-
🍎 Fruit Courses – Advanced and applied classes that help participants grow their independence and put their skills into action.
For more information about each individual class and for course descriptions, please visit our Root and Fruit Program page.

Root and Fruit Program Fees
At Bloom Skills Centre, we work hard to keep our programming affordable and accessible. We recognize that many individuals with exceptionalities live on fixed incomes, and we never want cost to be a barrier to participation.
Each 8-week course is $250, with discounted pricing available for participants who register for all classes within a full program block.
If program fees present a challenge, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We occasionally have support from local sponsors who help cover course costs for participants in need.
Students with Passport funding may submit Root and Fruit Program course fees for reimbursement through their funding plan.
Our goal is to make sure every willing learner has the opportunity to grow their skills and thrive in our community.

2026 Block III
Summer is for gardening.
Our Birds, Bees, and Butterflies Garden class is a hands-on learning experience where students build practical life skills, confidence, and wellness through growing food and caring for the natural world. Participants learn how to plant seeds, transplant seedlings, water and maintain crops, identify weeds, harvest produce, and understand the full journey from soil to table.
Along the way, students also develop valuable transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, following instructions, problem solving, time management, responsibility, and independence.
Working in the garden provides meaningful opportunities for physical activity through digging, planting, lifting, walking, and stretching, helping to build strength, coordination, endurance, and fine motor skills.
Time outdoors in nature can also reduce stress, improve mood, support emotional regulation, and boost overall mental well-being. Students gain confidence as they see the results of their hard work and experience the pride of growing something that nourishes their community.
The program also promotes healthy living by encouraging a connection to fresh food, seasonal eating, and nutrition. Students may help grow produce for our Bloom Skills Centre CommUnity Market, giving them the rewarding experience of contributing to food security and giving back to others.
More than just gardening, this program helps students grow life skills, friendships, resilience, and a sense of purpose. 🌱
The garden class runs each day throughout the summer with a brief break between July 28th- August 4th. Classes start each day at 9am and run until 12:30pm. There is additional opportunities for those that wish to stay later and garden longer if desired.
Participants can sign up for one day or mulitple days. If participants sign up for more than one class, there is a discount on additional classes.
